Reading and studying is an important aspect in the life of any student.
A common reason why students find it difficult to keep up with school work is due to their inabilty to stick to a reading guide or schedule.Students often make several foundational errors which makes the task of working with a schedule even more nebulous.

Reading and studying implies looking at and understanding the meaning of a written or printed word or symbol.A schedule is a planthat lists all the work you have to doand when you must do each of them.A reading schedule therefore,is a list containing all the subject one needs to study, when, how and where it should be studied.

How To Prepare A Study Schedule
  • List All The Subjects You Study : The subject or courses you offer should be written down and arranged in order of difficulty i.e subjects you find difficult to grab should be on top of the list. It's usually advisable to list subjects with a lot of practical work on top as they usually require a lot of time.

  • List All Items Needed For The Study : Beside each subject listed, write down the study items that will be needed such as textbook, calculator, dictionary etc.

  • Check Your Free Period : This is important as your time for studying should always be when you are less busy. It is also a determinant of how much time you'll dedicate to study. Remember, if you have not free period, you must create some in order to study.

  • Allocate Time : Having mapped out time to study, the next step is spreading the time across several courses. In this case, you'll have to choose what subject is most suitable to the available time. For example, you could find mathematics more easy at night than noon. You also know how much time you could devote to a subject whilst keeping in mind that each subject should last a duration of 30 minutes and above. You'll also be wise to avoid allocating a lot of time to subjects that will likely get you to sleep early.

  • Determine Your Study Centre: This could be anywhere ranging from your school library, your room, garden etc. List down places where you'd stay to study and always make sure they are easily accessible whenever you wish to use it. Computer related subject can best be studied in 's computer room to enable easy access to any other information you may need.

  • Create A Break Period : While the goal is to study, it would be unwise to suffer diminishing returns by spending so much time glued to your books.

  • Tell Friends and Family About Your Reading Schedule : Tell your friend or family about your reading plan and the periods you have scheduled for study. You could place a copy of your study schedule where every member of the family can see it.

  • Reschedule : You are expected to experience certain degrees of success or failure with your study schedule. If you tried and failed with a pattern, adopt another. Successful people make decisions quickly and change them when necessary.
