Meet the most celebrated scientist of the 19th century - Michael Faraday.
Born (September 22 1791)
Demise (August 25 1867).

Michael Faraday established himself as one of the peripheral figures in the early scientific world and went on to build a legacy that has stood through the years.

He has been labelled 'the father of electricity' for his exploits in making electricity available for use in technology.

9 Amazing Discoveries and Inventions of Michael Faraday

  • Michael Faraday established the basis for the concept of electromagnetic field in modern Physics.
  • He invented electromagnetic rotary devices which formed the foundation for electric motor technology.
  • Faraday was the first to report what later came to be known as nonaparticle (particles between 1-100 nanometres)
  • He invented the earliest form of the bunsen burner used as a convenient heat source in modern laboratories.
  • In 1820, Faraday created the first known compunds of carbon and chlorine C2Cl6 and C2Cl4
  • He discovered and propunded the law of electrolysis.
  • He created a glass of very high refractive index which led to his discovery of dimagnetism.
  • As a chemist, Faraday discovered Benzene (naming it bicarburet of hydrogen).
  • An 1831 model of the Faraday's disk was the first electric generator.
