This competition for secondary school students is designed to promote the study of chemistry through open competition and is initiative of the PZ Cussons foundation, proudly supported by premium brands: Premier and Nunu Milk.
The first edition of the competition was in 2013 and had over 800 students and the number have continued to grow through the years, with 2017 being the most successful edition with 3000 contestants.
In a statement released by the PZ Cussons company with regard to PZCCC 2018, the Executive Director for Brand Development and Activation, Christos Giouras alluded to the fact that the continuous increase in the number of yearly participants, is a testament to the fact that the objectives of the competition are being reached.
He also announced an increase for the grand prize winner.
The statement read,
''Our main objective with the PZ Cussons Chemistry Challenge is to stimulate and inspire the learning of chemistry among students and raise their IQ while demonstrating the relevance of Chemistry in our society.
To see how the competition has grown over the years is very inspiring, and we are indeed pleased to be kicking off the 5th edition.
As part of our growth process, we have increased the stakes this year, the overall winner will receive a prize money of N1m amongst other prizes for the schools, the teachers aren't left out as well".
The competition is divided into four different stages and is quite tasking because it has been designed to test and raise the IQ of contestants. It is split into the general tests, practical tests and the live quiz. Only successful contestants from each of the stages will progress and subsequently produce the best six that will contest in the grand finale.
Following the increase in stakes announced by PZ Cussons, the overall top three winners will receive a trophy, a medal, and N1,0000,000, N750,000 and N500,000 respectively. Other prizes will include new laboratory equipment for the schools and teachers who excel in the Teacher's Aptitude Test Segment.
