Prior to the year 2015, The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has
undergone many aborted efforts to establish effective computerized methods of sitting for the UTME (Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination). This method would go on to replace the paper writing which promoted examination malpractice.

The complexities attached to establishing an effective computer-based test had been a clog in
the wheel of progress of Jamb for several years until May 17, 2014, when the first set of computer-based test was completed.

Even though this first attempt brought about abysmal failure of some candidates who were still getting used to it, albeit, a lot of technical deficiencies, the Joint Admission and Matriculation has persisted with and are finally reaping the results.

This computer-based test became a success since 2015. till date and registrations are in progress for the 2018 annual Jamb examinations.

While Jamb has recorded remarkable progress so far, a lot of students are still struggling to migrate to the generation of computer-based test. This is because they are not thoroughly acquainted with the simple guides to JAMB CBT.

Simple Guide To Jamb CBT

1 How Jamb Works

A jamb candidate is tested in four subjects with English compulsory. Candidate can now add three other subjects relevant to their proposed course of study.

The examination body prohibits the use of timers or other electronic devices such as the cell phone. Defaulters are usually penalized and may be stopped from continuing the exam.

Jamb questions are prepared in General English language and candidates can score anywhere between 0-400. Jamb in 2017 reduced the cut-off mark to 120 for students who are seeking admission into higher institutions of learning in the country.

The duration of the exam is 2hr 45mins

2. Preparing For Jamb CBT

A candidate needs to be a computer literate before embarking on the Jamb CBT journey.
A candidate who doesn't know how to use a computer is advised to get a training on how to operate a system.
He should basically learn how to warm boot, cold boot and reboot and how to use the keys on the keyboard—both the control, alternate and shortcut keys. He should most importantly also learn how to use the mouse.

Next, a candidate should also undertake the JAMB mock test which is directly affiliated with Jamb, gives a hands-on knowledge of what to expect in the primary Jamb CBT.

If candidates really want to excel in Jamb CBT, then Jamb CBT practice is important.
This CBT practice will help you know your clicking speed, your thinking rate, your ability to decipher between wrong and right answer before the scheduled time, and the result of what you sat for.
Candidates who get involved in CBT practice found out their loopholes and took precautions ahead of the real deal.

You should study the past questions published by different companies thoroughly because it is a reflection of what you should expect. They should indulge in a judicious study of textbooks and other helpful requisites.

3.Registering For Jamb CBT

Registration for Jamb CBT must be done at an accredited Jamb center.

72 centers were blacklisted in 2017 for gross misconduct and technical deficiencies, therefore, Innovative Future recommends that you register with centers that have a clear record for at least five consecutive years.

A candidate should make sure he gives his accurate details during his UTME registration. His thumbprint should be carefully made to avoid hiccups during the day of his examination. For the past years, CBT was set up, so many candidates were unable to write the CBT because of wrong biodata.

Candidates should ensure registration is completed with the correct details. This will ensure a stress-free examination.

4. Jamb Centre Confirmation

Candidates are usually notified on their reprinted Jamb slip or via email on the Jamb CBT center where they have been posted to write their exams. This is usually in a different part of the city of residence used by the candidate during registration.

A candidate should find his exam center before the due date.

5.Writing Jamb CBT

Candidates are advised to get to their examination center as early as possible.
Thumbprinting for his biodata is required before examination commences. If thumbprinting is successful, the candidate is then presented with some documents, which includes login details.

A candidate is expected to input his details after screening in the computer system provided by the center.A page is displayed, showing instructions from JAMB.  Carefully read these instructions and then click 'OK' button to get to the examination page.

A candidate should now begin with the subjects he is good at (this ensures no time is wasted) and clicks on the option he believes is the right answer. When an option is selected, it saves automatically. You can delete an already clicked answer by clicking on the number. If you want to use arrows on the keyboard, you use arrow keys and then the enter key for an option.

Then when he is through with all the subject, he should then click submit button. A page will display asking him if he really wants to submit. He then chooses OK or 'cancel' button. When he clicks 'OK', his entries are automatically saved. He should then shut it down.
A candidate should submit his entries three minutes to scheduled time to avoid lapses which may be caused by the network.
