A Simple Guide To JAMB CBT

A simple guide to Jamb CBT
You're surfing the web right now for a simple guide to Jamb CBT, well this is the simplest you can find anywhere on the web as we have put together all you need to know about Jamb CBT
(Computer Based Test) in six subheads, for Nigerian candidates.

Let's take you through a few

Important Things You Should Know About Jamb CBT

Prior to the year 2015, The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has
undergone many aborted efforts to establish effective computerized methods of sitting for the UTME (Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination). This method would go on to replace the paper writing which promoted examination malpractice.

The complexities attached to establishing an effective computer-based test had been a clog in
the wheel of progress of Jamb for several years until May 17, 2014, when the first set of computer-based test was completed.

Even though this first attempt brought about abysmal failure of some candidates who were still getting used to it, albeit, a lot of technical deficiencies, the Joint Admission and Matriculation has persisted with and are finally reaping the results.

This computer-based test became a success since 2015. till date and registrations are in progress for the 2018 annual Jamb examinations.

While Jamb has recorded remarkable progress so far, a lot of students are still struggling to migrate to the generation of computer-based test. This is because they are not thoroughly acquainted with the simple guides to JAMB CBT.

Innovative Future summarizes a simple guide to Jamb CBT in six easy to understand subheads
You'll need this to excel in Jamb CBT

Simple Guide To Jamb CBT

1 How Jamb Works

A jamb candidate is tested in four subjects with English compulsory. Candidate can now add three other subjects relevant to their proposed course of study.

The examination body prohibits the use of timers or other electronic devices such as the cell phone. Defaulters are usually penalized and may be stopped from continuing the exam.

Jamb questions are prepared in General English language and candidates can score anywhere between 0-400. Jamb in 2017 reduced the cut-off mark to 120 for students who are seeking admission into higher institutions of learning in the country.

The duration of the exam is 2hr 45mins

2. Preparing For Jamb CBT

A candidate needs to be a computer literate before embarking on the Jamb CBT journey.
A candidate who doesn't know how to use a computer is advised to get a training on how to operate a system.
He should basically learn how to warm boot, cold boot and reboot and how to use the keys on the keyboard—both the control, alternate and shortcut keys. He should most importantly also learn how to use the mouse.

Next, a candidate should also undertake the JAMB mock test which is directly affiliated with Jamb, gives a hands-on knowledge of what to expect in the primary Jamb CBT.

If candidates really want to excel in Jamb CBT, then Jamb CBT practice is important.
This CBT practice will help you know your clicking speed, your thinking rate, your ability to decipher between wrong and right answer before the scheduled time, and the result of what you sat for.
Candidates who get involved in CBT practice found out their loopholes and took precautions ahead of the real deal.

You should study the past questions published by different companies thoroughly because it is a reflection of what you should expect. They should indulge in a judicious study of textbooks and other helpful requisites.

A candidate should study the past questions thoroughly because it is a reflection of what they should expect. They should also indulge in a judicious study of textbooks and other helpful requisites.

3.Registering For Jamb CBT

Registration for Jamb CBT must be done at an accredited Jamb center.

72 centers were blacklisted in 2017 for gross misconduct and technical deficiencies, therefore, Innovative Future recommends that you register with centers that have a clear record for at least five consecutive years.

A candidate should make sure he gives his accurate details during his UTME registration. His thumbprint should be carefully made to avoid hiccups during the day of his examination. For the past years, CBT was set up, so many candidates were unable to write the CBT because of wrong biodata.

Candidates should ensure registration is completed with the correct details. This will ensure a stress-free examination.

4. Jamb Centre Confirmation

Candidates are usually notified on their reprinted Jamb slip or via email on the Jamb CBT center where they have been posted to write their exams. This is usually in a different part of the city of residence used by the candidate during registration.

A candidate should find his exam center before the due date.

5.Writing Jamb CBT

Candidates are advised to get to their examination center as early as possible.
Thumbprinting for his biodata is required before examination commences. If thumbprinting is successful, the candidate is then presented with some documents, which includes login details.

A candidate is expected to input his details after screening in the computer system provided by the center.A page is displayed, showing instructions from JAMB.  Carefully read these instructions and then click 'OK' button to get to the examination page.

A candidate should now begin with the subjects he is good at (this ensures no time is wasted) and clicks on the option he believes is the right answer. When an option is selected, it saves automatically. You can delete an already clicked answer by clicking on the number. If you want to use arrows on the keyboard, you use arrow keys and then the enter key for an option.

Then when he is through with all the subject, he should then click submit button. A page will display asking him if he really wants to submit. He then chooses OK or 'cancel' button. When he clicks 'OK', his entries are automatically saved. He should then shut it down.
A candidate should submit his entries three minutes to scheduled time to avoid lapses which may be caused by the network.

6.Release Of Jamb Results

Jamb CBT results are usually released less than a week after the examination has taken place. Candidates are notified by email and can check their jamb results online by logging on to the official jamb website.

How grand the climax turns out , lies on your heeding this notice and getting ready for the end of the term assessment which is lurking around the corner.

Think less about the holidays now. Give more thought to how to achieve the best grades from your exams.

What You Must Do Now To Get Ready For The Exams

1.Create A Study Schedule

Getting back to every topic across each subject you have studied in school this term would represent a big challenge if you do not employ a schedule.

In your schedule, specify the study time and subject/topic to be considered.
Difficult or complex subjects must be given priority while less complex follow.

Do your best to stick to your schedule, then you can avoid rush studying during the examination period.

2.Get A Study Partner

A close friend or classmate who would be sitting for the same examination could be the perfect partner.

If you have a study team, then spread the reminder already. Everyone should get to work.

The earlier you start bracing yourself up for what is ahead, the more prepared you are to handle it.

3. Practice Possible Questions

To make studying specific and more productive , you could create a list of likely questions and practice them.

In some other cases, reviewing previous versions of a teacher's examination questions has given students insight on what to expect in an examination.

4.Stay Properly Motivated

The fact you didn't get a pass or good grade in previous exams should not weaken your resolve to give your best this time.

You can put in a super performance if you go all out this time. You can overcome a poor grade. Proper preparation prevents poor performance.

5.Study Examination Ethics

Examination ethics refer to the rules guiding the conduct of students participating in an exam.

When you know and abide by the examination ethics, you can play by the rules and stay out of trouble.

Conclusion

The short cut to passing with flying colors in an examination is hinged on the principles of early and thoroughly preparation.

We believe you got this notice on time and should get to work right now.

How To Overcome A Poor Grade At School

At one time or the other in college, you have to deal with the pressure and uncertainty webbed with a poor grade.

You feel even worse than normal if you had expended a lot of time and effort preparing for the test or examination.
If your parents are interested in your school performances, then telling them about a poor grade is an even more unpleasant experience.

You, however , must move on from a poor grade in some way. Let's help you!

Why You Should Not Weep Over A Poor Grade

1.You Aren't Faking

While your score isn't as pretty as you would have wanted, it represents your productivity and is something you should be happy about.

It is a far better bargain than having to cheat to pass tests.

2. You Notice The Need to Improve

Let's face it! You would have been flattered by a decent grade if you eventually got one with the performance you put in.

It didn't turn out that way, so you have a clear evidence that you have some work to do. In a sense, a poor grade saves you from an even worse grade.

3. A New Challenge

Overcoming a poor grade is a challenge that will help you get better.
If you love challenges like we do, then you should never be fazed by a poor grade.
Tough times make you stronger!

Just after a poor grade in a test or exam, you need to move on with your studies in the best way possible. How do you make the breakthrough?

How To Overcome A Poor Grade

1. Assent To Your Mistakes

This would serves as a springboard to every single effort you will channel towards overcoming a poor grade.

Do not fall into the trap of blaming someone else for your score. You are the boss and would have welcomed the praises if your score was perfect.

Even the simplest feeling of animosity towards a teacher for your performance in a test or exam can hinder you from taking the necessary steps to improving your grades.

2.Study Your Mistakes

Mistakes are a part of learning, but failing at the same point only means you haven't improved.

To overcome a poor grade, devote time to studying the reasons behind it. Ask permission from your teacher to review your work.

Scrutinize the work repeatedly. Errors and omissions are to be written down in a different book so you can work on them subsequently.

If you're in good terms with your teacher, then work out possible solutions with their help.

Failure to observe exam ethics, could be another possible reason for a poor grade. Learn more about exam ethics here.

3. Create An Action Plan

Now, this depends on what you discovered from carrying out action 2 and varies depending on the subject you need to improve on.

Your workload would be reduced if the reasons behind the poor grade are minor.
A more serious study routine can help you solve minor problems with your grade.

A lot more planning and strategy would be needed if the reasons are complex.

Action plan for an English vocabulary class could include reading more English texts on a particular lesson, speaking and writing in English more often and playing word puzzles.

If you suffer a poor grade in a physics test, then this guide to understanding physics will help you.

4.Speak To Your Parents About Your Grade

Sounds scary right? Well, here's a good reason to let them in on your poor grade.

If your parents are interested in your studies, then it's a sign they care about you.

If you let them know about your poor grade without their asking, it's a sign of maturity and would make them trust you even more.
You can also work out possible solutions with them.

5.Stay Positive

You can get better and have already started working towards it. Go gradually and you'll get there soon.

Francisca's Challenge - Episode 3

The first few days of the Maths tutorial classes was really what Francisca expected.

They explored difficult topics and were given assignments at the end of each class. She was perfectly comprehending every bit of it and to crown it all, Mr Newman has stopped making those immoral advances.

Her fears were further mitigated the day Mr Newman asked her to drop his lesson notes in his office after the tutorials. At first, she hesitated but had to after convincing herself that nothing would happen. Nothing did happen as Mr Newman only thanked her as she left the office.

Hmm! Everything seems to be falling in place and Francisca was cruising!
At last she could trust the new Mr Newman who was poised to help her get past her Maths challenge.

She never knew she had taken the bait !

It was after a class that Mr Newman sent her to do the now normal duty of dropping his lesson note in his office. Just as Francisca was about to leave the office, Mr Newman pulled her back and close to his body. She was really scared but knew exactly what to do once he attempted to kiss her. She slapped and kicked him hard and then ran out of the office screaming. Since school was over by then, no one would hear her scream.

She hurried to her friend Rose who had orchestrated the plot with Mr Newman and asked that they leave the school premises at once. She was already on her way home debunking Rose's claim that she still had work to do in school.

Rose pretended she never knew what happened on their way home as Francisca related the story of how Mr Newman attempted to kiss her.
To Francisca's utmost surprise, Rose was not in dissent of Mr Newman's advances. It was then that she related to Francisca the story of her affair with Mr Newman, explaining it was the reason why they were getting on good terms. She also mentioned that it was what almost every girl in class was doing.

'You must use what you have to get what you want' she concluded.

Francisca was really shocked at hearing this from a supposed friend. But she could now understand why things were going the way they were.

Her strong moral family background would not allow her do something wrong in order to pass her exams.

She made a firm decision on that day to take the bull by the horn. She would deal with her maths challenge alone. She would wake up at midnight to study for three hours while during the day, she would use her free time at school to study as well.

'No one knows it all', she said do herself.
The little I know now can fetch me a pass'.

Francisca's Challenge Episode 2

A happy ending!

Francisca was excited to receive her result at the conclusion of the exams.

She aced her other papers with an A1 with a B2 grade in Mathematics.

Yes! She had done it!
The goosebumps all over were as many as the challenges she had to overcome to achieve this result.

At school the next day, it was announced that Mr Newman has been sent packing from the school to the prison yard having been found guilty of impregnating an underaged student.
Rose was the victim!

Francisca knew she could have found herself in Rose's shoes if she hadn't made the right move at the right time.

Now she could rest knowing that she has aced her Maths exam without Mr Newman.

She won the challenge!

THE END!

Guide To Building A Great Study Team

Building A Great Study Team
Together everyone achieves more.
Two heads are better than one and unity is power. How often do you hear these?

If you have achieved any success by a combination of minds then you have a near perfect understanding of why you need to build a great study team.

An African proverb 'If you want to go fast, go alone, if you want to go far, go together' summarizes the reason why you need a team.

What Is A Study Team ?

A union of two or more persons (in this case, students) who pursue similar interests in a particular subject or course with the ultimate goal being, helping each member improve.
This post on Cambridge Assessment explains the concept of learning without teachers.

A great example of a team goal could be getting a better understanding of physics, improving your vocabulary, getting better at mathematics or improving public speaking skills.

Together Everyone Achieves More
(Together Everyone In The Team Can Achieve More)

If you're still hesitant, here are some hard to resist benefits you get by building a study team.

-Further Understanding Of A Course And Improved Research Work

Your chances of understanding a course are improved by working with a team of people who are in the same race as you.

When the students in a study team collate ideas ,they will get wider knowledge of a lesson or course.

Research work is also promoted as each student will be more eager to get answers to enable him make a contribution when the lesson will be studied as a team.

-Discipline And Self-control

By virtue of the class being held by only students, there is a chance for the students to build self-control and discipline.
.
Students in the team learn to play by the rules or get ex-communicated by the team.

-Development Of Leadership Skill

Qualities pertinent to leadership such as team spirit and humbleness can be acquired from a study team.

How?

Everyday study is done under the guidance of a member of the study team (probably you or someone else).
The study guide thus can get first hand experience of what it means to carry people along.

That is what leaders do!

-Build High Self-esteem and Eliminate Inferiority

A student who feels shy to speak in public, can easily learn to do that by continuous participation in the activities of the team
The individual also begins to feel important because of his contributions to the team, thereby eliminating inferiority.

Some other benefits of a study team.

  • It helps to build positive relationship among scholars.
  • It encourages you to study more, thereby reducing examination malpractice.
  • It helps you make better use of their time .Yes! Rather than whirl it away.

Now, you know what you have been missing by not belonging to or building a great study team.

Here's how to go about it.

How To Build Your Own Study Team

1.Choose Your Team Mates

Finding a group of students in the same field of study as you, who would buy your idea and form a study team can be really challenging.

Here are some traits to watch out for in potential study team mates.

Interest

This is what really determines who is qualified to be on your study team.

Anyone who displays genuine interest in joining your study team can easily acquire all other traits on this list.

Willingness To Work

Engaging a lazy person in a study team might end up sapping the zeal you have to work with a team.
Hence, only pick those whose work and study habits, show that they'd like to work with you to get better.

Team Spirit

This trait will ensure there's cooperation within your study team and could make even the most complex task seem simple.
It should be a real collaboration where everyone plays a role in ensuring the team's continuity.

Pertinent Knowledge

For the particular course you are venturing into, every member of the study team must have a handful of useful knowledge to give out.

Now, you might wonder how many people could be in your study team.

Size Of A Study Team

A study team doesn't really have to be a crowd, so if you can get one or more persons with same mindset, you're set!

2.Choose A Study Time

A convenient study time suitable for each member of the study team should be agreed upon ,with each member taking part in the decision making process.

The team's study time must never encroach with school study time ,so that you don't get to miss any lectures or attract the ire of your lecturers.

Once you have a scheduled time, encourage members of the team to be punctual.

3.Set Targets

Now you must set both personal and team goals to help track the progress you'll make while with the team.

Since we are sure you wouldn't love to be running round a circle or whirl away your time even though you have a team, here are some potential ways to track your progress

  • Taking improvised exams after each lesson
  • Competing with someone/people in the same field
  • Writing a book on the course and lots more.

So, we are done here!

Now you have a guide to build a great study team.

Conclusion

The strong foundation of a building is what keeps it standing during stormy times.

You can build a strong foundation for your study team by imbibing what you've taken time to read now.

So, get to work!

Wait? If you already have a study team, then we'd love to learn from you.

These Eight (8) Ethics Will Make You Pass Any Examination

A Student writing exam properly
He did it again! Even after he had promised himself never to do it again.
He could already tell what poor grades he would be making. He never bargained for this, but just like every other time, he just manages to screw up.

Who knows that feeling when you walk out of the exam room or hall knowing you've totally messed up? How Often Do You Experience This?

With exams lurking around the corner, you really should be giving much thought to how prepared you are for the final segment of this academic term?

For some students, preparation for exams started sometime after school resumption and we already can say they have a better shot at making the best grades at the end of the term.

If you're just starting to prepare , then you're still a long way off. We wish you success anyway!

The eight tips that follow can help you pass any examination if you have studied as much as you should.

Are you ready? Let's go!

Eight Basic Examination Ethics

1. Organise Yourself Before Exams

Just as studying is important to passing an exam, self coordination prior to exams gives you an edge.
Get rid of any activity that will get you distracted when the exam starts. If possible, spend the final minutes before exam alone in a quiet place. This gets you ready for what is coming up.
Use this period to reflect on questions you're anticipating from the subject teacher.

2.Build Confidence

Dwelling on thoughts of how you've scaled through even more difficult exams in the past.
Muttering some confidence boosting words such as 'I can do this' has also proven to be a huge upliftment to some students.

3.Fill In Your Details

Ever heard the saying that 'first impression matters'.It sure applies to exams.
Your personal details is what the examiner sees first before proceeding to your actual write-up.

You, therefore have failed the preliminary test if you fail to meticulously fill in your personal details, upon receiving your answers script.
Make it your first exam activity or you might forget to do it at the end of the day.
You sure know what that means!

4.Read Through Instructions

The instruction section tells you what the examiner expects from you, while doing anything contrary to this, means you're already on the wrong side of the equation.
If the examiner decides to give their instructions orally, then you must pay close attention to what is being said.

5.Go One At A Time

Since you may not have the answer to all the exam questions, going gradually gives you some speed and confidence as well.

For a start, provide full answers to the questions you are super sure about. Then the ones you are sure about. You can then spend the remaining time on those that require critical thinking.
For exams, slow and steady wins the race.

6.Avoid Distractions

There is no guarantee that there will be no distractions in the exam room or hall, though it is usually a very quite place.
Do not be swayed by side talks or any disturbances. You could easily get lost with your work if you allow this.
Also be alert to wave away any iota of thought not related to the task at hand (exam),which may come to mind.

7.Avoid Spelling and Grammatical Errors

Teachers do not feel at ease assessing a script with so many spelling or writing errors. This doesn't bode well for you as a student if you make incomplete sentences or words perhaps because you are writing hurriedly.

8.Proof Read Your Work

At this point, you go through every single alphabet, word, sentence and lines you've written down.
Make corrections where necessary and if time permits, continue to review.

Conclusion

These basic exam ethics are proven to guarantee the best grades if you get mastery over them.
You sure can!

Now You're Good To Go.

Do you easily forget after studying

What to Do If You Easily Forget Things After Reading (Research Proven)

How not to forget after studying
You spend the whole day studying privately but can't recall what you've been going through just a few minutes after leaving the table?

That's the ordeal a lot of students face and they eventually lose their passion for studying in the long run after series of frustrating efforts to get over it.

It's really as bad as what it seems to you.Every successful scholar needs a long-term memory to stay active in classes and pass examinations. You would never get anywhere if you easily forget things after studying.

If you ain't got that ability to remember, don't worry.  We're sure you'll get better after going through this post.

Let's get going!

A short-term memory is one that retains a small information for a little period of time, usually in the order of seconds (if not rehearsed). When rehearsed, the information is transferred to the long-term memory which has an indefinite storage capacity.

With the exception of Anterograde amnesia where the patient has the inability to store new facts in the long-term memory, every normal human being has the same storage capacity.

Yes! You can store as much information as you want and also be able to recall them.

How To Make Sure You Do Not Easily Forget What You Have Studied

1.Prepare For Each Study Session

Studying is a game of the mind and therefore should be done when the mind is adequately rested and concentrated on the topic you intend to study on. When something not related to the topic comes to mind, you tend to lose focus.

Hence, before you study, get rid of all sorts of distraction E.g television, cell phone etc.
If it's a class study, then stay away from those who will draw your attention away from what is going on.

Research has also noted that individuals who study in a quiet environment are more likely to recall what they have studied. Therefore, it is advisable to choose an unexposed, quiet place as your study center.

Do not study when you're under stress or you may doze off with your heads faced down in your book.

2.Grab One At A Time

Trying to store a lot of information in the long-term memory at the same time might be the reason why you end up remembering none.

Study gradually and isolate the main points from your study material. Note that it is not the volume of material covered that really matters, but how thoroughly you're able to cover it.

If you feel tired at some point, then take a break, cool off and get back to study when you're set.

If you're the teacher, then we advise you figure out when your students have reached their elastic limit.Else, you'll be pouring water on a duck's back.

3.Study Broadly

Considering other information related to the topic gives you a wider knowledge.

For instance, you might come across the term 'budgeting' while studying a topic 'financial education'. Seeking more information about this term will give the person wider knowledge of what financial education really is and can also serve as the basis to remember what is studied.

Set limits too with regards to additional information you will be hunting for or you will deviate from your study topic along the way

4.Employ A Paper And Pen

Ever heard the saying that a short pen is better than a long memory? Yeah, it's true, but you gain even more by having both (short pen and long memory).

Writing down what you are studying, goes a long way in helping you recall. What is contained in a line of what you have written down, can help you remember tonnes of other information.

5.Create Examples

Illustrations can help you recall more quickly than anything you can think of. Therefore as you study, create fitting examples in your mind's eye for each main point in your study material.

You could create a vivid picture of accident scenes in your mind while studying the topic 'First Aid' to enable you to understand better which first aid procedure applies to different accident cases.

6.Rehearse

Teachers have confirmed that when a student is made to go through the same lesson over and over again, the information is stored in the long-term memory and is difficult to forget.

Immerse yourself in the information you want to store, by spending ample time with it. Do not only read or say the exact words (cramming). If you can, rewrite the same idea in your own words and study it. Thus, you become the original source of the idea, making it difficult to forget.

7.Teach

This is a trial version of how efficiently you can recall what you have studied. Teaching someone else (perhaps a junior) from what you studied also heightens your knowledge on the topic.
Urge your student(s) to ask you questions while you try to give them satisfying answers.

Conclusion

Studying becomes more interesting and worthwhile when you improve your powers to store and recall what you have studied. We are confident that following these steps can help you achieve this.
