Emeka's Story - How Dangerous Cultism Is (Episode 1)

Cultism Head and skull on Innovative Future
It was the talk of the whole town and has even gathered more momentum
in recent weeks as the 'Red knife' guys raided another bar.

The cultists snatched people's handsets and wallets and left the scene immediately they heard police sirens at a far distance.

Emeka was watching from their own house which was adjacent to the bar where the raid occurred. He could recognize the face of one of his classmates Ete who was a member of the 'Red knife' guys. He had known for some time now about his involvement but this was the first time he was seeing him in action.

Then came this battle with his conscience which has become the epilogue whenever he hears about a cult raid.

Coming from a very nice and religious home, Emeka knew without doubt that what the 'Red knife' guys were doing is inhumane.

But he still wondered,

'Since the bad boys always manage to get away from the crime scenes, how would the innocent victims of this raid get justice'?.

He knew something should be done by the government, but is still bewildered by the fact that not even a single member of the cult group has been in police custody.

He quickly swiped the thoughts aside as he heard his Dad call out his name.

His Dad was in the bar when the raid took place and has lost his cell phone to the bad boys.

'My smart phone is gone!' Mr John lamented.

At this point, Emeka got even more infuriated. How could a gang with his classmate in the crew, raid his very own father?

Something must be done about this,he thought to himself.

But what could he do ?

He was a very quite person and would be given the beating of his life, if he ever walked up to Ete to mention that he saw him with the 'Red knife' guys at an operation. Not to mention that his father's smartphone was collected at the spot.

Emeka didn't want to keep quiet about this either. As he remarked,

'It was a slap to his face'.
How could someone, same age as him rob his father?.

He thought about the next line of action.

'I know what I must do now ' he said ,ready to storm out of the room.
His father called him back and said,

'Do not make any rash decisions because of what has happened today. Justice will prevail'.

The Final Laugh - Ken's Story (Final Episode)

It was a Monday morning when the school bell rang for a gathering of the students.
The school principal had summoned the students to announce who would represent the school for the Maths competition.

Francis and his friends were already in high spirits when the principal enthused,

'We know there is a only one young Pythagoras in this school to represent us for this state competition.
He is no other than 'Kenneth Godwin!'.

Everyone in the school except for Francis and his friends, cheered out loudly. The applause and joy of everyone was clear to see.

Ken had climbed up to the stage at this point!

'How is he managing to walk ?', Francis still astonished, asked his friends.

The principal continued,

'We thought we would miss him for this competition but by God's infinite mercy, the doctor has declared him fit after a series of scan'

The cheers resounded, with Ken's face glowing with a smile now. His friends Ben and Festus were leading the cheers.

Francis and Co at this stage exited the scene with their eyes filled with a cloud of tears.

Just In Case You Missed - EPISODE 2

Ken now set out with advanced preparations for the maths competition. He relentlessly studied night and day to get ready for it.

On the day of the competition, Ken was fully prepared. He tore through the questions as though he was the one who had prepared them. He was done before other students and he stepped out confidently, knowing he has delivered maximally.

Francis and his friends, as well as Ken's friends and family were in attendance when the results of the competition was announced a week later.

The minister of education announced,

'The winner of this year's mathematics competition is 'Kenneth Godwin of Treasured Scholars College '

Ken leaped up in joy, with his parents sitted beside him joining the celebrations.
There was great roars of cheers from every corner of the stadium with his schoolmates and teachers leading the cheers.
The principal shook Ken's hand and thanked him for doing their school proud.

The Governor followed next with what was Ken's biggest handshake since birth. Ken had goose bumps with that special feeling like he was on another planet.

The governor presented the cheque of ₦300,000 to Ken and praised him for winning the competition. He encouraged Ken never to rest on his laurels and continue to work.

In his concluding speech, Ken humbly acknowledged the effort of the school and his friends and family in helping him win the competition.

He also spoke about how a friend's opposition encouraged him to put in more effort.

Francis and his friends were at the back stage now with eyes firmly fixed on the shinning floor tiles.

Just In Case You Missed - EPISODE 1

He concluded,
'Now I've learnt from this experience that he who laughs last laughs best. In fact, it feels good to have to final laugh!

Guide To Building A Great Study Team

Building A Great Study Team
Together everyone achieves more.
Two heads are better than one and unity is power. How often do you hear these?

If you have achieved any success by a combination of minds then you have a near perfect understanding of why you need to build a great study team.

An African proverb 'If you want to go fast, go alone, if you want to go far, go together' summarizes the reason why you need a team.

What Is A Study Team ?

A union of two or more persons (in this case, students) who pursue similar interests in a particular subject or course with the ultimate goal being, helping each member improve.
This post on Cambridge Assessment explains the concept of learning without teachers.

A great example of a team goal could be getting a better understanding of physics, improving your vocabulary, getting better at mathematics or improving public speaking skills.

Together Everyone Achieves More
(Together Everyone In The Team Can Achieve More)

If you're still hesitant, here are some hard to resist benefits you get by building a study team.

-Further Understanding Of A Course And Improved Research Work

Your chances of understanding a course are improved by working with a team of people who are in the same race as you.

When the students in a study team collate ideas ,they will get wider knowledge of a lesson or course.

Research work is also promoted as each student will be more eager to get answers to enable him make a contribution when the lesson will be studied as a team.

-Discipline And Self-control

By virtue of the class being held by only students, there is a chance for the students to build self-control and discipline.
.
Students in the team learn to play by the rules or get ex-communicated by the team.

-Development Of Leadership Skill

Qualities pertinent to leadership such as team spirit and humbleness can be acquired from a study team.

How?

Everyday study is done under the guidance of a member of the study team (probably you or someone else).
The study guide thus can get first hand experience of what it means to carry people along.

That is what leaders do!

-Build High Self-esteem and Eliminate Inferiority

A student who feels shy to speak in public, can easily learn to do that by continuous participation in the activities of the team
The individual also begins to feel important because of his contributions to the team, thereby eliminating inferiority.

Some other benefits of a study team.

  • It helps to build positive relationship among scholars.
  • It encourages you to study more, thereby reducing examination malpractice.
  • It helps you make better use of their time .Yes! Rather than whirl it away.

Now, you know what you have been missing by not belonging to or building a great study team.

Here's how to go about it.

How To Build Your Own Study Team

1.Choose Your Team Mates

Finding a group of students in the same field of study as you, who would buy your idea and form a study team can be really challenging.

Here are some traits to watch out for in potential study team mates.

Interest

This is what really determines who is qualified to be on your study team.

Anyone who displays genuine interest in joining your study team can easily acquire all other traits on this list.

Willingness To Work

Engaging a lazy person in a study team might end up sapping the zeal you have to work with a team.
Hence, only pick those whose work and study habits, show that they'd like to work with you to get better.

Team Spirit

This trait will ensure there's cooperation within your study team and could make even the most complex task seem simple.
It should be a real collaboration where everyone plays a role in ensuring the team's continuity.

Pertinent Knowledge

For the particular course you are venturing into, every member of the study team must have a handful of useful knowledge to give out.

Now, you might wonder how many people could be in your study team.

Size Of A Study Team

A study team doesn't really have to be a crowd, so if you can get one or more persons with same mindset, you're set!

2.Choose A Study Time

A convenient study time suitable for each member of the study team should be agreed upon ,with each member taking part in the decision making process.

The team's study time must never encroach with school study time ,so that you don't get to miss any lectures or attract the ire of your lecturers.

Once you have a scheduled time, encourage members of the team to be punctual.

3.Set Targets

Now you must set both personal and team goals to help track the progress you'll make while with the team.

Since we are sure you wouldn't love to be running round a circle or whirl away your time even though you have a team, here are some potential ways to track your progress

  • Taking improvised exams after each lesson
  • Competing with someone/people in the same field
  • Writing a book on the course and lots more.

So, we are done here!

Now you have a guide to build a great study team.

Conclusion

The strong foundation of a building is what keeps it standing during stormy times.

You can build a strong foundation for your study team by imbibing what you've taken time to read now.

So, get to work!

Wait? If you already have a study team, then we'd love to learn from you.

The Final Laugh - Ken's Story (Episode 2)

During a preparatory class for the mathematics competition
attended by students, Ken left his school bag on the desk with his mathematics notebook on top.

Ben and Festus watched from close range, while Ken excused himself from the class to answer nature's call.

Ken had barely left the classroom when Francis, thinking that no one was watching, snapped up Ken's notebook.
Ben and Festus immediately walked up to him.
They gently made him return the note, as Ken had clearly stated that they were not to create a scene. Everything was now clear for them to understand.

They had sound confirmation that Francis was trying to kick Ken out of the picture, so that he could represent the school in his place. Ken knew he had to be careful from now on.

However, it was what followed next that made Ken regret, not reporting Francis to the school authority.

It was during the school's sport time. Ken and Francis were playing on opposite sides of a soccer team. Ken scored twice but had to be stretchered off just after that!

Francis went in with a tough tackle ,that twisted Ken's ankle. Ken could barely walk.

Fran's really knew what he was doing. No one would send someone with a twisted ankle to represent the school in a mathematics competition, he thought to himself.

Ken knew he had screwed up a bit, he has done his best to avoid Francis up till now, only to lose his guard with only one week left to the competition. What was he gonna do now.
Meanwhile, he had to walk around with a clutch and a bandaged ankle.

Francis celebrated this supposed victory with his partners in crime.

Hahaha!'

The laughter echoed down the hall where they were chilling with a bottle of soft drink each.

'Francis',  called with enthusiasm. 'you are a genius. I salute your cleverness. Even the P. E teacher never believed you did that on purpose.
From this day, I name you Albert Einstein Jr.'

The boys laughed sarcastically once more. Sipped the last drop of the drinks on their bottles and left their meeting place.

It was now two days to the actual competition.

Francis and his friends were also eagerly awaiting the announcement of the name of the student to represent the school. Of course, he knew it was going to be him but he just needed that confirmation.

The confirmation he got was however the least of everything he expected.

The Final Laugh - Ken's Story (Episode 1)

Two students writing essay competition
With tears dripping down his cheek,Kenneth fell on his knees
having been hit on the head with a tennis bat.He could not bear the excruciating pain. He decided to stay down as the pain jostle down his spine. He struggled to figure out who had hit him from behind as he knew fully well that he had taken down the group of four boys that attacked him.

As he managed to turn around,he couldn't believe who he was seeing. His eyes widened as he saw who held the tennis bat.

'Francis!',Kenneth called out, still amazed.

'How could you .....'.His voice failed him.He felt dizzy. He thought the world was melting away, but then he realized his eyes were shutting. He tried to lift his hands but it weighed more than he could imagine. He noticed he was blacking out and before he had counted up to five in his mind,he drifted into unconsciousness.

'Ken, please wake up!' was the first words he heard as he slowly drifted back to life.It was another of his friends,Ben,who had rushed him to the school library to regain consciousness.

Awww! Ken screamed as he tried to sit up.

'My head aches, where are we ?

'We are in the school library' Ben answered
'We couldn't take you home ,as we didn't want your mom to know you passed out.I thought we could sort this out ourselves '

Ken remembered the last face he saw before he passed out.

'Oh! who would have believed,my best friend would hit me with a tennis bat?' He asked Ben

'Think less about him now' Ben said reassuringly.
;We must focus on getting you back to fitness' .

'Where are the others ?'
He asked, still fazed by the thought of what Francis had done

'They should be here by now. They went to report to the head teacher'.

Janet,Festus and Gift who were also Ken's friends stepped into the library and joined the conversation.

What really happened ? Janet asked
'Francis happened' Ken replied

'But why would he suddenly attack you with a gang of boys'.

It was only then the Ken's mind flashed back to an announcement the school's head teacher made some weeks ago.

'A mathematics quiz competition has been organised by the state government for students of this region. Our school will send a single representative while the best student at the end of the competition would walk away with #300,000 as well as a scholarship to any university of your choice. I urge you all to work hard while we pick the best student to represent us'

Ken had won the school's test while Francis came second.

Now Ken could figure out the reason why Francis had hit him with a tennis bat.
'He wants to stop me from taking part in the competition. There is no way I'm going to let him do that.

How sure are you about this ? Festus asked,

I'm super sure about this and there's a way to confirm my claims'. Ken said.

'How exactly do you intend to go about that ?' Ben chipped in

'We test him' Kenneth said.

'And how do we do that, Francis is smart and you know that', they all said almost immediately.

'I think I got an idea' Ben said. They closed around and Ben related his plan to them..

6 Things You Could Do With Your Free Period At School

A Student On Free Period
Amongst other things that a student cherish most is their free time at school.
Whether break time or teacher's absence from class, students always love a time off.

You may however get caught up and use absolutely your whole free period at school doing nothing of value.

Well, those days are over.
Here are six recommended activities you could engage in during free peiod at school.

1.Play Word Games With Friends

Word games help improve your IQ as well as improve your writing ability .

You and your friends could learn new words using the dictionary or as an alternative write out some complicated words. Each person gives out a word while the others try to spell and give out the meaning of the words.

You can also try out some word puzzles like the one below.
How To Spend Your Free Peiod

This activity also sparks up some opportunities to get new friends, especially if you just moved to a new school and need to settle down quickly.

2.Review What Has Been Studied

You could spend your free time going through what you have learnt prior to it.
Scan through your notes and try to recall what the teacher has said on his last visit to your class.
If it's break time, then we recommended a quick review of what you've learnt from classes before then.

3.Chat Up A Teacher

Next lecture class?  Well that's not exactly what it is. Your teachers have a lot of experience you could tap into by listening to them, therefore a chat with perhaps your favourite teacher during your free time is a nice idea. Most teachers are really good at carrying on conversations.
